Ner
A downloadable game
Sickly damp air fills your lungs as sporadic artificial light strains your sun-starved eyes. The dim corridors ahead of you are bathed in aluring darkness, drawing you deeper and deeper into the unknown as your ability to recall the surface world recedes. With every step, a creeping anxiety grows, whispering about a haunting presence that calls this place home.
Ner is an atmospheric horror game made for Scream Jam 2023 set in a desolate underground complex where your only option is to descend further and further into the dark unknown.

This was actually terrifying. I felt a little bummed out at the start thinking "oh you only walk around collecting gems?", but it really took off and damn I'm happy I kept going. I'm still shaking a bit, this played fantastically on fear of the unknown, and that you can take a hit and still get away just makes the creatures even more terrifying.
My greatest fear while making the game was that it wouldn't be considered particularly tense or scary, so it gladens me to see you write that :)
Dear developer, check out a video about your game that has been included into Scream Jam 2023 Highlights video! Hope, you will like it.
Cool! Thanks for featuring Ner!
My pleasure! Nice game!
well done
Thanks :)
This game has great horror atmosphere, pixelated textures, low poly assets, and sound effects. YouDoYouBuddy consistently puts out good stuff. I especially liked his Lead Haul game, which has a similar Wolfeinstein3D like level layout but is way more action oriented than Ner is.
My only real complaint is that pressing the escape key exits the game instantly and there is no saved game system, so trying to pause or open a menu can easily lose all progress.
PS YouDoYouBuddy: Which of the 3D extensions for Love are you using to make these? One of the active ones such as groverburger's 3D engine (g3d), Menori, or 3DreamEngine; or perhaps something homemade or lesser known?
Thank you for your feedback! I totally agree that having the game close the instant you press ESC isn't all that great. Maybe I'll implement a proper pause screen in a post jam update :)
I'm using g3d for pretty much all of my 3D projects, including Ner.
Cool, thanks for the update. I like your work. 🙂
